At the last minute, we planned a family trip to San Antonio so that Aaron could interview for a radiology residency. We were really excited to go back to our roots and visit family and friends. When we were just 30 minutes away on Friday, we found out that Aaron's Grandma Rose was not doing well and that we needed to stop by and see her right away. She was our first stop. Aaron was able to hold her hand and while she looked at Aaron and Gabriel, she squeezed his hand. The next day, Saturday, she went into a coma. Around 8PM on Sunday, she passed with all the family around. The weekend we picked to take this trip could not have been more perfect. Even though Aaron still had to be at BAMC all day Monday and Tuesday and early Wednesday morning, we were able to help with funeral arrangements, attend the viewing, and attend the funeral, all while getting back to El Paso on the same day as planned. If it were any other weekend that she had passed, Aaron probably wouldn't have been able to get away from his internship to attend the funeral.
Here's a picture of Grandpa Stan playing cars with Gabriel on the day of Grandma Rose's passing. I think Grandpa enjoyed seeing Gabriel this trip.
Even though things were pretty hectic, we were still able to get all the cousins together on Monday evening so they could sing an early "Happy Birthday" to Gabriel and enjoy cupcakes. Gabriel did his best to try to blow out the candles, but his weak blows did not even make the flames flicker. He had help from his cousins

Sorry to hear about Aaron's grandma passing! Hopefully the next trip to San Antonio won't be so rushed so that we can get together!
